The Picnic Project

Home Horizon Barbara Weider House is super excited to announce THE PICNIC PROJECT, partnering with Roadrunner Foods, Georgian Hills Vineyards, The Pop-Up Event Company and The Print Shop!

This is going to be the best summer ever… and all in support of youth facing homelessness in our community.

After what seems to have been an extraordinary length of time with self-isolating during this COVID-19 pandemic, it is time to get out and enjoy a picnic with your people. Order your picnic(s) by Sunday, June 28 and arrange a contactless pick-up at the Collingwood YMCA parking lot (look for the Roadrunner Food Truck) or Georgian Hills Vineyards on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The first 100 to order their Picnic will receive a special gift!

After the initial Launch on Canada Day, THE PICNIC PROJECT will run through to October 12. Order your Backyard BBQ Picnic; Vineyard Picnic; or Georgian Bay Surf & Turf Picnic for delivery Tuesday through Sunday – order by Noon the day before you want your picnic (24 hours’ notice) and your picnic will be delivered to your curbside across the Georgian Bay area. Enjoy amazing food and beverages anywhere you want in the South Georgian Bay all summer long…

Despite it being a relatively invisible problem in our community, youth homelessness does exist. In response to this need, Home Horizon, a local charitable organization with 13 years of history helping the homeless in our community, built the Barbara Weider House. The Barbara Weider House provides a safe home and a welcoming communal environment – something many of these youth have never had. All the youth have access to counseling and social and life skills programs to help them successfully rebuild their lives and transition to independent living and adulthood as opposed to continuing down a path of homelessness that may lead to larger problems.

“We have an incredible opportunity to drive change in our community and give vulnerable youth hope, opportunity and a chance to succeed”, says Karyn Baker, Interim Executive Director. Grab your friends, family and neighbours and enjoy a picnic knowing you are supporting homelessness in this community.

The goal is to sell 100 picnics by July 1st, 2020 and then continue this project through to October 12, 2020.
