COVID-19 Assessment Centre Opens at CGMH
A COVID-19 Assessment Centre will open in front of CGMH on March 18th. The purpose of this Assessment Centre will be to screen all patients coming into the Hospital and should not be considered a “testing centre”.
All patients coming into CGMH for care will be required to enter through the Assessment Centre which will be housed in a tent in front of the Emergency Entrance. Staffed by CGMH physicians and employees with the assistance of Nurse Practitioners from the Georgian Bay Family Health Team, the purpose is to stream those presenting to the most appropriate area for care.
Lauren Tindall, CGMH Chief Nurse Executive says, “Our priority is to continue to care for all emergency patients in the safest and most effective way possible so we urge the public not to show up to the Assessment Centre asking to be solely tested for COVID-19. Testing is restricted to patients who meet government screening criteria.”
The public can assist in the work of health care providers by accessing the tools made available by the Government of Ontario for self-assessment. The link to the Self-Assessment tool can be found at www.cgmh.on.ca or http://bit.ly/ON-COVID .
Patients requiring emergency care should continue to come to CGMH but will be asked to enter through the Assessment Centre to be screened and directed to the appropriate area for treatment. CGMH thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during this challenging time.
