CGMH Confirms 2nd Positive COVID-19 Case
CGMH has been notified by Public Health of its second confirmed positive case of COVID-19.
A 54 year old from the GTA visited the CGMH Emergency Department on March 13, 2020. The patient had a travel history outside of Canada and was in close contact with a person who had tested positive for COVID-19. The patient was tested for COVID-19 in the Emergency Department and sent home to self-isolate. The patient immediately returned home to the GTA.
CGMH has followed up with the Emergency physician and employees who cared for the patient. They followed proper guidelines and best practice, wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
“We are proud of the continued professionalism of our physicians and employees in treating all of our patients,” says Norah Holder, CGMH President & CEO. “They continue to work tirelessly with compassion and expertise to care for their patients and their community.”
CGMH stresses that directives from Public Health and the Government on social distancing and staying at home are critical to containing the spread of COVID-19. “The CGMH team is doing everything possible to care for our community but the community needs to help keep our team safe by following Government directives,” says Holder. “The lives of everyone in our community depend on each one of us being socially responsible at this unprecedented time of world pandemic.”
CGMH will be reaching out to the public with requests for appropriate assistance through social media. The public is encouraged to follow CGMH on Facebook and Twitter and access the CGMH website (www.cgmh.on.ca.) for the most up to date information.
“Many local companies and professionals have already helped out by erecting our Assessment Centre and providing appropriate supplies that we requested. They are too numerous to be named right now but they have our deepest appreciation,” says Holder. “Although all offers are appreciated, please understand that not everything is appropriate to be accepted and we may not be able to respond to many generous offers if they are not appropriate at this time. Please follow CGMH social media to ascertain how you can help.”
