The Village at Blue Mountain Foundation is pleased to announce the grant recipient for 2007 will be the Pursuits Program. The decision to select this program was based on the solid track record of the program, the impact it has on the community, the exceptional high school leadership program designed specifically for teens and the mentoring they in turn provide in elementary schools.
The funds raised will go directly to a measureable goal, equipment for their program. A donation of $10,000 will be presented to the Pursuits Program at the Village at Blue on November 30th, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. The funds were raised through the Charity Golf Tournament held at the Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay on September 15th, 2007.
Rich Fletcher and Mike Page, teachers of the program will receive a cheque from the Foundation President, Don Braden. Joining us in making this presentation will be Councillor Cameron Kennedy from The Town of the Blue Mountains, Foundation directors Bob Comish and George Weider and Foundation Coordinator, Deb Piggott.
"The Foundation reviewed several applications for funds and a choice for the major biannual recipient was difficult as all the organizations engage in meaningful work," said Braden. The decision to select this program was based on the solid track record of the program, the impact it has on the community, the exceptional leadership program designed specifically for teens and the mentoring they in turn provide in elementary schools. The funds raised will go directly to a measureable goal, equipment for their program.
The Pursuits Program is High school leadership program and is a registered charity whose mission is to encourage participating students to take on many different challenges from new wilderness experiences, becoming physically fit, volunteering at community events, instructing elementary students in the benefits of healthy eating while teaching and interacting with children to keep them active. Graduates of the Pursuits Program have gained invaluable skills empowering them to strive for personal excellence, giving them an understanding that they can contribute and make a difference, while gaining insight into the value of helping people who are less fortunate.
The Village at Blue Mountain Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our local communities through its financial support of registered charitable organizations in the areas of health, human services, education, the arts, culture, the environment and recreation, with an emphasis on underprivileged children and family programs.
The Foundation was derived from similar successful Foundations established at other Intrawest Resort Communities.
