Glerups slippers are a felted, suede soled piece of luxury. More importantly, they are cozy and warm, absolutely perfect for those early brisk mornings in the chalet, or those fireplace gatherings après ski. They come in several styles, high-backed and low-backed as well as a “boot” style. They come in a range of colors from black, natural, red, grey and others.
And, like much of the clothing in Grey Heron Natural Deisngs, they are made of all natural materials. Glerups consist of 100% pure natural wool carded, washed and felted at the production farm. No chemical treatments are applied to the fleece.
The colouring processes are very eco friendly. No heavy metal dyes play a part in the process. The calves hide soles provide excellent traction and safety on all types of flooring.
They are durable… Karen has worn hers for over eight years, including the five years she and her husband Jim lived in Denmark. They have even withstood the ministrations of their new puppy who has chosen them as a favourite toy.
Wool has very unique properties. That is why it has been around for hundreds of years. Wool fibres consist of an inner core made of protein much like our hair. This core can absorb 30% of its own weight in moisture. As a comparison, cotton and linen absorb approximately 18%, nylon 8% and polyester about 2%.
Wool fibres are strong and elastic in nature. The crimped sections found in the fibres create air pockets thus acting as a good insulator. Perspiration is wicked into the inner core sections keeping you dry and warm.
Wool is a fantastic material given to us by nature. Wear your Glerups all year round.
Your feet will thank you.
Glerups can be purchased at Grey Heron Natural Designs 47 Bruce St. S. Thornbury.
