Widely recognized as “The Apple Capital of Ontario”, Meaford is a picturesque and welcoming community steeped in heritage architecture, and offering a way of life that promotes preservation, conservation and relaxation.

With Georgian Bay’s sparkling bright blue water in its front yard and the Niagara Escarpment at its back door,

Meaford’s borders extend from the hamlets of Leith, Annan and Rockford in the west to Bognor, Woodford, Griersville and the Town of Meaford in the east.

Unsurpassed fishing, sailing, one of the prettiest harbours around, uncrowded beaches, approximately 2500 acres of apple orchards, scenic back road country drives, and historic walking tours are all but a stone’s throw away.

Visitors always receive traditional small town hospitality and a warm welcome when they come to Meaford by the Bay …a place ‘where great memories begin’!

DON’T MISS THIS SUMMER….

Experience nature at its most pristine with some of Ontario’s finest hiking and biking trail systems. The Bruce, Georgian, Trout Hollow and newly developed Tom Thomson Trails boast several kilometers of scenic routes. Waterfront camping, beaches and parks also beckon the nature enthusiast. Retrace the steps of the famous conservation guru and founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir who lived in Meaford in the 1800’s. Or take in the vast and bountiful stretch of escarpment, forests, marshes and other natural wonders at Bognor Marsh.

Every Friday from June to Thanksgiving, drop by the Meaford Municipal Farmers’ Market under the Rotary Pavilion at beautiful Meaford Harbour to pick up some fresh homegrown produce and food products from our local producers.

The beautifully restored and renovated Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre is home to the only Opera House in the region and showcases year round entertainment including live theatre, music, various festivals and art exhibits in the upstairs galleries. Don’t miss the 2009 Meaford International Film Festival.

Catch a glimpse of our marine heritage and the town’s early settlers at the Meaford Museum, be inspired by the memorial windows at Christ Church Anglican featuring some of the oldest stained glass on the continent, enjoy the top notch acoustics with a concert or two in the quaint historic Leith Church, or learn the story of Beautiful Joe, Meaford’s world famous dog.

Some of the summer’s most anticipated events include ARTFEST …on the bay, Leith Summer Festival, Electric Eclectics, 6th Annual Meaford Harbour Antique Show, SweetWater Music Weekend, and Beautiful Joe’s Autumn Adventure to name just a few.

We encourage you to come back during the fall to experience the brilliant colours of our panoramic countryside and take in what is perhaps our most famous tradition, the Meaford Scarecrow Invasion…. Thousands of Scarecrow sightings take place from mid-September to mid-October. It all culminates with the Big Fall Weekend at the beginning of October which includes the hugely popular annual Apple Harvest Craft Show.
