The Collingwood Elvis Festival 2007 is sure to be a festival that attracts more attention than previous years, recognizing the 30th anniversary of the passing of the King. If Elvis were alive today he would be flattered and certainly touched by the amount of energy that goes into celebrating his life, accomplishments and his existence. A tribute fit for a King! Looking a little more closely at a snapshot of one of the tribute artists lined up to celebrate the life of Elvis, we are pleased to bring you a close up of Kevin Mills.
This year will mark the first time Elvis Tribute Artist Kevin Mills graces the Collingwood Elvis Festival. As a newcomer to our annual festival, Kevin brings a long and accredited history as an Elvis Tribute artist along with him.
At the age of 10 Kevin knew he wanted to be a performer. He attended Cinnaminson High School in New Jersey where he was actively involved with the drama and music clubs. Yearning to become a performer, Kevin formed a band in 1987 “The Rock-N-Oldies” and his dream was on the journey to reality. He performed in various clubs throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania for three years and in August 1990 finally received the recognition he deserved and was crowned “The King” during the 4th Annual Elvis Impersonators’ World Competition in Memphis, TN. Out of 80 top performers from around the world, Kevin won first place and was proclaimed to be the best Elvis Tribute Artist in the world. How’s that for recognition?
As a result, Kevin has received ideal exposure including his performance at the Presidential Inauguration for Bill Clinton.
Mills has enjoyed a noteworthy career as an Elvis Tribute Artist performing at high profile venues including Las Vegas, The Taj Mahal, Memphis, Washington DC, a 50 city US tour and having the honour of entertaining the troops in the Diego Garcia South Pacific Military Tour in 88/89. This is just the start of an outstanding list of accomplishments, in addition, Mills has been featured as ‘Elvis’ in a number of movies and documentaries for Fox Network, ABC Primetime and has enjoyed spotlights on Inside Edition, CNN, ABC Primetime and 48 Hours to name a few.
When asked what pushed Mills’s button to start the Elvis Tribute act he states that he was prompted by friends and fans of his band to press on…he looked like Elvis…and sounded like Elvis. He would include an Elvis song or two into his act with his band in the late eighties and it just sort of morphed from there.
Mills met his wife Luana while performing in Memphis. Her Aunt Vera is a huge Elvis fan and while working for Air Canada, Luana had the opportunity to visit her Aunt who pulled her to an Elvis act at a local venue.
Kevin and Luana have 2 beautiful kids, Jordan 5 and Selina 8. Kevins owns and operates an English Pub in Richmond Hill called the London Pub at 9725 Yonge Street, 905.508.2770.
