KEEN® Canada and Adventure Racing Canada has just introduced their newest event to take place September 15th and 16th in Collingwood, Ontario. The event is called the KEEN Adventure Sports Games ~ A Multi-Sport Festival ~, and it is a weekend celebration of outdoor sport.

Participants can challenge themselves in one or more of the seven races taking place on the weekend…including the Collingwood X-Country Mountain Bike Race, CW-X Conquer the Escarpment Trail Run, Beaver Valley Paddling Race, Georgian Bay Open Water Race, the SUUNTO Adventure Run, a Mountain Bike Navigation Race, and a Hill Climb Relay for charity.

In the KEEN Ultimate Adventure Challenge, the most adventurous racers can test their strength and endurance by competing in all seven events for an opportunity to win a trip to Australia to compete in the 2008 KEEN Alps to Ocean Adventure Race. The winners of the KEEN Ultimate Adventure Challenge will be flown to Australia with roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, and their entrance fee covered. With a total value of $10,000…. this adventure will be the opportunity of a lifetime.

There will also be two other adventure race events including paddling, mountain biking and trial running/trekking: a one day Multi-Sport Stage Race (marked routes) and a one day Adventure Stage Race (with navigation).

Three other events of interest to the local biking, running and hiking community include the following:

The Collingwood X-Country Mountain Bike Race is Ontario’s newest point to point cross country mountain bike event that will take both recreational and competitive riders on an epic 60km journey from the picturesque Beaver Valley to Ontario’s hub of year-round adventure activities, in Collingwood. (a 30Km distance will finish in the same location).

Taking in the area’s best mountain biking terrain, participants will begin in the Beaver Valley where they’ll face two monster climbs up either side of the valley. Next they’ll pass through the technical and remote back-country trails of Kolapore Uplands. Then it’s a wide open bomb on back roads to reach Collingwood’s epicentre of Cross-Country Mountain Biking - the Pretty River Valley Provincial Park (more affectionately known as “Three Stage”). In Three Stage competitors will battle more huge climbs, some rock’n fast descents and plenty of smooth, flowing single-track. After exiting Three Stage, racers will fly down the escarpment on more country lanes; they’ll tough-out a few more climbs until they reach the top of the ski-hills at Blue Mountain. From here, if racer’s don’t linger too long to soak in the view, it’s just one more descent to cross the finish line.

The Hill Climb Relay will be taking place in hopes of raising money for various environmental and trail maintenance groups that are a vital component for outdoor adventure in the Collingwood area. The relay will consist of the teams ascending a local ski hill on a marked hiking trail, and descending back down to tag their team-mates who will begin their own ascent of the mountain. For “five cents a foot” these teams are encouraged to raise approximately $125 / team.

The CW-X Conquer the Escarpment Trail Run at the Keen Adventure Sports Games will feature some of the most challenging courses ever experienced by trail runners in Ontario.

We’re talking huge climbs, river crossings, mudslides, thigh pounding descents, riverbed scrambling and oh yeah, did we mention there’s going to be a little bit of climbing! Finishing any of the three trail running distances will be a proud accomplishment!

This event is open to both soloists competing in the male and female solo, masters (over40yrs) and Youth (under 13yrs - 5km only) categories.
