The Georgian Bay British Car Club (GBBCC) was formed on February 13th, 2006 when a group of British car fans from this area, stretching from Owen Sound to Barrie, got together in the Admiral's Post Pub, Collingwood at the instigation of Graeme Wallace.
The purpose of the GBBCC is to increase the popularity of our common interest, British cars. The Club is open to any British car owner (sorry, no motorcycles) and the vehicles may or may not be roadworthy. We also welcome people who share our common interest in British cars, even if they currently do not own one ... maybe we can help you find one?
There are many car clubs in Ontario but they are not conveniently located for people living in the Georgian Bay area and most of us find it difficult to take the time to attend their meetings and events. Our intent is to complement these existing clubs and to encourage participation in each other’s events where possible.
The aim of the Club is for us to promote our knowledge and love of British cars. By developing relationships and friendships, the Club will be a friendly and social gathering place for sharing our interest in driving, maintaining, and enjoying our precious "toys". We strongly encourage the participation of our spouses and children, so that Club events are fun for everyone. We will be holding monthly meetings and will be getting together on road trips to auto shows, have guest speakers on various topics, enjoy cruise nights and social gatherings, work on projects, maybe have movie nights in the winter months, etc.
Everyone agreed at the first meeting that our Club should be a friendly, informal one that will be open to anyone who has an interest in British cars. Less than a month later, the membership is now 33 and growing fast. The membership already includes a wide range of British cars, including the following marques; MG, Triumph, TVR, Austin-Healey, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Morris, and Sunbeam. Typically our cars come out of winter storage sometime in April, so not many days to go.
An Executive Committee was elected and consists of the following positions:
President: Graeme Wallace Secretary & Membership Alan Brand
Vice President: Bill Rogers Events Co-Ordinator Harry de Ruiter
Treasurer: Bob Mills
The next general meeting will be held at a new location on Monday evening, March 13th at the "Seasons" room at Cranberry Inn (Hwy 26 West in Collingwood), starting at 7:00 pm. This room is directly behind the dinning room, as you come in the main entrance to the Inn. Monday is traditionally a busy evening in the Cranberry dining room so if you want to eat there (before the meeting) then you should make reservations accordingly. The dining room opens at 5 pm. Snacks, wings, beer, etc. are always available in the nearby "MIXRS" Lounge. The Inn will assign a waitress to come by the meeting room every 20 minutes or so to take drink and/or light food orders.
