100 years of Canadian flight comes alive at the Gathering of the Classics, when the largest collection of vintage aircraft and autos descend upon Edenvale Aerodrome.
A steady stream of aircraft spanning almost a century of Canadian aviation will be on show in the air and on the ground at the Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundations annual fly-in or drive-in, at the Edenvale Aerodrome on Hwy 26 E on Saturday August 1.
The Gathering of the Classics is bringing back for the first time since WWII the Harvard’s to fly at Edenvale. Walk amongst the vintage aircraft and autos, talk to the pilots of these magnificently restored aircraft from the barnstormer days and hear the engines roar as they fly overhead. Whether in static display or flying past there will be something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Warbirds, Vintage & Classic aircraft, ultralights, float planes and modern aircraft, vendors, food and more.
The kids are welcome to join Michele from the Clearview Library as they build and race airplanes while learning about the 100 years of flight in Canada.
For the auto buff in the family there is expected to be over 100 classic automobiles and vintage motorcycles on display.
Rather than the thunderous “boom and zoom” type air show, the Gathering of the Classics evokes a more romantic era in aviation. Rather than a distant spectacle, the Gathering encourages interaction amongst all the participants – pilots, veterans, youth and visitors. Stroll among the aircraft and listen to the stories – or tell yours. Take a walk with the pilots down Vintage Row and hear the pilots and engineers talk about their aircraft.
Parking is right on the grounds and to stimulate interest in our country’s aviation heritage, this year admission for all the Canadian Veterans and children under 8 are free!
Adults $10.00, Children 8 – 16 $5.00, Family Rate $25.00. Veterans and children under 8 $ Free!
For added excitement flights will be available in the vintage Tiger Moth, the Harvard. Fly over southern Georgian Bay and see where the WWII fighter pilots learned to fly.
