Chocolate is Perfect (Posted On: Thursday, December 13, 2007)

Anyone who loves chocolate will agree…but great chocolate is even better. We’re not talking about the box of holiday Turtles or Christmas M&Ms shaped into ornaments for the tree or even those fancy boxes of chocolates with cream fillings that leave you feeling very suspicious and you find yourself double checking the chocolate map…sometimes twice.

Chocolate is the voice of passion and love, whether it is the love of chocolate itself or as an expression of love for another person.

Christmas or Monday, chocolate is the perfect gift for those we care about or just want to impress. But let’s be honest here.. if it isn’t the real thing.. why bother?

Did you know that the first bonbon was created in the 17th Century by the Duke of Plessis-Praslin? He needed a delicacy to keep rioters out his way. The Duke saw a kitchen boy scrape leftover melted sugar out of a pan. A light bulb went off and voila! He became the inventor of the bonbon, better known as the praline. As time went by, many more flavours were invented and it is an extremely popular product.

In December alone, Aarden’s Chocolates in Stayner manufactures over 40,000 pralines and that is just a fraction of their assortment! You really should pop in for a visit to see all of the exciting products that they have to offer. Marc and Monica keep adding new products year after year to their product line - like the addictive orange peels dipped in dark chocolate. I just ate a few and I had to move them away from my reach...too good! Last year Mark and Monica had the great pleasure of meeting Jan and Linda Damman who had emigrated to Canada from Belgium. They had plans to open a chocolate shop in this area and we are so pleased and flattered that they chose Collingwood as their destination. What a great addition to Hurontario Street!

The Aardens were honoured when the Dammans expressed their wish to carry their products. They opened their beautiful store, Chocolarte at 9 Hurontario St. in Collingwood this past spring and offer many of Aarden’s products as well as other Belgian chocolates and gorgeous pottery and jewellery from around the world.

Whether you visit Aarden’s in Stayner, or visit Jan and Linda in Collingwood, you’ll be greeted with a wam welcome and smile!

If you can’t make it to either shop in person Aarden’s is pleased to announce that they have just launched their own website and you are able to order on-line and have your purchase shipped either to yourself to put under the tree or to a loved one who will be very very happy and pleased with your thoughtfulness. Please note that to ensure the recipient gets their gift on time the deadline is 2 weeks before Christmas.

Mark and Monica from Aarden’s Chocolates and Jan and Linda Damman from Chocolarte wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

So when you’re thinking about what to buy that special person also think about supporting our local businesses.
