After a devastating fire last August, Bluewood Stables is back in business. The horrible fire claimed the lives of a pony and her 3-month old son, as well, all of the riding equipment, tack and grooming supplies were lost.
It has been a very trying year for the Martin family and for the horses. The fire was deliberately set and thanks to a great team of police and lawyers, the person responsible for it is in jail paying for his crime.
It is extremely important for the Martins to re-open. They have managed to keep most of their amazing trail horses, though a few have had to find new homes. The funds the family had in savings were used to feed and care for the horses through the winter. The family has nothing left financially and are desperately trying to get equipment to start over again.
Bluewood Stables has been welcoming Georgian Bay residents and visitors to the world of horses for over 12 years. This summer they are determined to continue to offer the quality service and experiences they are known for, but in order to do this, they need your help. Without help from the community they are faced with the very real possibility of closing.
How can you help? Bluewood Stables is looking for donations of time, money or tack for the horses. If you have any of these to spare, it would be much appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at the Stables at 302 Grey Road 21 (Osler Bluff Road) or mailed directly to Bluewood Stables, P.O. Box 647, Collingwood, Ontario, L9Y 4E8, 705.445.7939.
