As Collingwood and area continue to expand, more and more retiree newcomers are taking up full time residency here. As they settle here they are undoubtedly curious as to how they might go about meeting people and getting acquainted with the area. Probus Clubs offer the perfect solution for members to do just that.

Probus clubs are made up of retired and semi-retired professional and business people. The word "Probus" is a derivation of the words PROfessional and BUSiness. Probus Clubs are the initiative of Rotary Clubs and, once formed are autonomous. Probus clubs are not involved in fund raising and are non sectarian, non political and non profit.

The basic purpose of a Probus Club is to provide monthly meetings and fellowship for people who appreciate and value opportunities to meet others of a similar level of interest, enjoy hearing addresses by guest speakers, sharing in club activities and visiting places and organizations of specific appeal to members.

Probus club activities are simply too numerous to list. Golf, skiing, biking, theatre, tours, car rallies, picnics, Bar B Q's, interest groups for computers, card games, to mention just a few.

Probus Clubs are located around the world. In southern In Georgian Bay there are more then 15 Probus Clubs, more than any comparable area in the world. They range from exclusively ladies clubs or exclusively men's clubs, or mixed co-ed clubs. One of our area's Probus clubs is the largest in the world. Most Probus Clubs have membership waiting lists.

The Collingwood Men's Probus Club has a limited number of membership openings. New members gain much pleasure from our club membership. We meet at 9:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of every month year around, at the Cranberry Bear Estate. Coffee is provided until 10:00 a.m. when the meeting formally begins with announcements and reports on an extensive number of club activities. This is followed by morning coffee & fellowship. At 11:00 a.m. the Guest Speaker commences and at 12:00 noon the meeting concludes. After meetings, many members go out together for lunch. Collingwood Men's Probus Club annual membership is a modest $45 a year.

If anyone would like more information on the Collingwood Probus Men's Club or to attend a meeting as a guest, don't hesitate to contact me.
