The Georgian Bay Titans Rugby Football Club is hosting “Rugby Week” in the Georgian Triangle, May 10 – 15, 2010. Look for fun and informative events throughout the week for interested players of all ages.
Rugby is a relatively new sport in the area, this is only the fourth season for the Georgian Bay Titans, and Rugby Week will provide players and parents the opportunity to learn more about programs being offered by the Titans,
and, for the minis, a chance to come out and try the sport for an evening.
Kirsty Stevenson, President of the Titans, is enthusiastic about rugby, “It’s fast-paced, games last about an hour, and there is a place on the pitch for players of all levels of ability and experience. Rugby is a true team sport – everyone on the field is important and everyone gets to be part of the action”.
On Tuesday May 11, 6:00pm – 7:30 pm, bring your son or daughter to Cameron St. Public School to try flag rugby for the evening. Coaches will be available to answer your questions and your children can see first hand why everyone is having so much fun on the pitch.
On Wednesday May 12, 6:30pm – 8:30pm all 4 of the Georgian Bay Titans junior teams will be practicing at Collingwood Collegiate Institute. This will be the last time this season that all junior players will be together on one pitch. It’s a great opportunity to meet all the coaches, see the different teams, and learn more about rugby.
On Thursday May 13 Mountain View Public School is hosting the largest rugby tournament in the area for players in Grades 7 & 8. Hundreds of young rugby players from 10 different area schools will be on the pitches at Fisher Fields for a fantastic day of rugby. The Georgian Bay Titans is pleased to be able to support local public schools in their drive to make flag rugby part of the curriculum.
Junior boys tackle rugby will be offered in several age groups: U14, U16, U18, & U20.Outdoor practices run twice a week from early May until the end of August and games are once a week against teams within a fairly small geographic area. All outdoor practices and home games are held at Collingwood Collegiate Institute.
The Titans are again pleased to offer the Georgian Bay Titans/Optimists Mini Co-Ed Rugby League for players 6-12 years of age. This flag rugby program teaches young athletes the basics of rugby in a fun, non-contact environment. The league runs one night a week only, Tuesday, and each night athletes spend time learning the basic skills of the game and then practice what they have learned in a house league flag rugby game. Many thanks go to the Collingwood Optimists for their generous support with the only Mini Flag Rugby League in the Georgian Triangle.
The Titans are thrilled to announce their first women’s team for female players age 16 and older. The team is practicing one night a week with games on Saturday.
Registration for all teams is open until the end of May so there is still lots of time to join the fun. Games are free to watch and spectators are welcome. For more information please contact: email@example.com or go to their website.
