Runners and hikers hit the trails at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures last Sunday (June 7), raising $14,000 for Creemore-based water charity Tin Roof Global.
The second annual GUSH Run or Hike for Water event featured 2K, 5K and 10K runs and 2K and 5K hikes through the stunning scenery on offer at Scenic Caves. "This is the most beautiful course I've ever run," said one competitor after finishing the course.
Money raised at the event will benefit Tin Roof Global's efforts to provide and protect clean water in Ontario First Nations communities and in rural Uganda.
In addition to running or hiking the trails, the event's 275 attendees enjoyed a spectacular performance of First Nations drumming and dance by the Red Spirit Singers; a fresh, local meal featuring food donated by The New Farm, Hoffmann's Meats, Giffen's Country Market and Miller's Dairy; and the opportunity to try out Scenic Caves Nature Adventures' epic Thunderbird Twin Zip Line.
"We're incredibly grateful to all of our supporters who joined us for such a great day," said John Millar, executive director of Tin Roof Global. "The funds we raised today will directly benefit communities that are in water crisis."
