Thunderbird Twin Zip Line (Posted On: Tuesday, August 28, 2012)

Scenic Caves Nature Adventures’ newest thrill ride promises spectacular views and double the fun for riders.  One of longest zip lines in Canada, the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line is the only twin zip line in the province that offers riders a chance to  control their own speed while seated next to a friend as they take in the breathtaking views of Georgian Bay, the Blue Mountains, Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.

“Zip lining adventures have gained popularity in recent years and we’re excited to be offering a unique type of shared zip line experience,” says Rob Thorburn Sr., Chairman of Scenic Caves Nature Adventures.  “Experienced zip liners will appreciate the majestic surroundings and beauty of the ride, and first-timers will love the ease in which they can control a thrilling experience that will take them down a 300’ vertical drop”.

Construction of the zip line began in Fall 2011 by Walkerton-based Owen King Limited. The design was provided by Zip Tour LLC of Utah, which designs and builds zip lines around the world that cover the biggest ride spans.  The ZipTour® features a patented “dynamically-controllable” trolley that allows the rider to control their zip line ride speed.

“There are many zip lines around the globe but, until now, there has never been the technology in place in Canada that allows the rider to control their speed,” says Thorburn. “Considering the breath-taking view that spans more than 14 sq. km., being able to control your own experience is a huge benefit.”
“The rush you feel ascending the 50 foot tower and the “fall away” cliffs leading to the panoramic view make the Thunderbird run by far, the best thrill value in Central Ontario,”  he adds.

Wiith construction completed, The Thunderbird opened July 28, 2012 and will operate through the end of October. “Anticipation of the ride has been growing and more than a thousand pre-sale tickets were purchased by guests to the Eco Adventure Tour featuring a tree top canopy walk and two zip lines as part of the tour.  Customers have been calling every day to find out when we are going to be open. We are pleased to say that we are now open,” says Thorburn.
