Summertime…a time for kids to have fun, make friends, share common interests and enjoy healthy outdoor experiences. Invite your child to ‘discover the drama within’ in a rural setting that offers so much more.
Theatre Collingwood proudly presents Theatre Camp at Larkspur Farm.
Six one-week long summer daytime drama camps are available for young people ages 8 – 13 during the following weeks: July 6-10 • July 13-17 • July 20-24 • July 27-31 • Aug 10-14 • Aug 17-20, 2009.
If there is sufficient interest, a program for ages 13 – 16 may also be available.
Under professional instruction, students will be introduced to basic acting techniques and improvisation through a variety of games, stories and exercises led by Peter Church. The program is founded on four pillars: impulse, focus, communication and teamwork.
Kids will also explore movement through Pilates-based techniques. Playing with momentum, control and positioning, youth will discover the versatility that their bodies provide on and off the stage with Kimberley Church.
Larkspur Farm provides the dramatic backdrop for a memorable experience. Complete with animals and fragrant orchards, the scenic atmosphere is ideal for creativity, exploration and adventure.
But that’s not all! Each day, a nourishing meal fresh from the farm is prepared by Heath Needles. Lunches are kid-friendly while being epicurean delights and are followed by a dessert from Heath’s kitchen.
The ‘behind-the-scenes’ trainers of this program offer a remarkable range of talents.
Professional actor and experienced youth trainer, Peter Church is an ensemble member of Toronto’s Classical Theatre Project, specializing in performing Shakespeare for high school students. For the past six years, he has taught programs for theatres, schools and churches, at such locations as: Port Stanley Festival Theatre, Brookstone Theatre, Broken Open Theatre and Kingsbridge Art School.
Wife, Kimberley Church has been a certified mat Pilates Instructor since 2004 with TheMethodPilates from Physicalmind Institute thorough BodyHarmonics under Master Teacher Trainer Margot McKinnon. She is also a certified Thai Massage practitioner. Kimberley’s style is gentle for kids, with a focus on safety, fun and controlled movement.
Gourmet Cook and Day Camp Facilitator is Heath Needles. Owner/operator of the renowned “Heath’s Dessert Kitchen”, Mrs. Needles is married to award winning author and playwright, Dan Needles. Heath squeals with laughter, “I love children, food, drama, summer and my farm. When the kids have a break, they feed the baby lambs, smell the flowers or climb a tree. I’m thrilled to be able to offer a memorable theatre adventure in this personal setting.”
Artistic Director, Steven Thomas oversees the theatre camp and looks forward to teaching occasional classes. In addition to his 40 year professional career in theatre, music theatre and opera, Steven holds an accredited teaching Ontario Teaching Certificate and has taught drama courses at all levels.
Says Thomas “My ten year vision for the company has been to provide quality theatre for all ages. What’s remarkable about this summer theatre camp is that we’re able to integrate a theatrical learning experience with our rural lifestyle. Kids will have so much fun they won’t even realize they’re learning life skills! And, by the way, parents will be assured that the background lesson plans augment the Ministry of Education Curriculum for Elementary Schools in Drama.”
