The Tale of a Town - Canada is a nationwide theatre and media initiative aimed to capture the collective community memory of Canada's main streets, one story at a time.
The Tale of a Town is touring the country in their 'Storymobile' (a.k.a travel trailer-turned-mobile recording studio) and visiting small towns and big cities alike, collecting oral histories through interviews with independent business owners, local heroes, community stakeholders, and neighbourhood residents. This national venture will culminate in a multi-platform celebration of the country's main street culture, in commemoration of Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017.
The Tale of a Town Storymobile will be located adjacent to the Collingwood Town Hall from September 15 - 19, to gather main street and community stories. These local stories will be digitally recorded and added to The Tale of a Town's story portal (see website). The stories will also become part of a podcast about Collingwood that will be distributed through The Walrus Magazine online.
The Tale of a Town's time in Collingwood will culminate in a community celebration on September 26, in Downtown Collingwood, when the podcast will be unveiled.
Community members are invited to join us at the 'Storymobile' and share their memories of our wonderful community. No appointment is necessary, but there are opportunities for staff to join you off location at other times to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to become part of Collingwood's collective memory.
Do not miss the opportunity to join in this unique community event and add your memories to the oral history of our great town. Call 705-445-5595 / email us for further information.
