The Order of Collingwood is awarded to those people who have made outstanding volunteer contributions to improve social, cultural and or recreational conditions in the Town of Collingwood.

Congratulations to the Order of Collingwood Recipients:

The Companion of the Order of Collingwood is awarded to those who have previously received the order of Collingwood and have continued to make outstanding volunteer contributions to improve social, cultural and or recreational conditions in the Town of Collingwood.

Congratulations to the Companion of the Order of Collingwood Recipients:

The Order of Collingwood and Companion of the Order of Collingwood awards will be presented at the Mayor's New Year's Levee, Sunday January 10, 2010 at the Georgian Manor Resort.

Biographies

Dr. Farel Anderson
• Volunteer Dentist at the F.I.S.H. dental clinic in Jamaica for the past fifteen years
• Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II 50th Anniversary medal for community work in Canada and abroad
• Past Council member for a total of three years
• Past Chair of the Police Services Board
• Past Board member for the Contact Centre
• Involvement with E3 Community Services
• Chairperson for the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities
• Consistent volunteer and supporter of the local chapters of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian national Institute for the Blind
• One of the founding members of the Collingwood Toastmaters Chapter
• Supports and contributes to:
o The Collingwood General & Marine Hospital
o The Collingwood Music Festival
o Theatre Collingwood
o Participant in the Singing Christmas Tree at the First Presbyterian Church


Ed Christie
• Instrumental in forming the Collingwood BIA and continues to be actively involved since inception, serving as Chair numerous times
• Past President of the Rotary Club of Collingwood
• Honorary member of the Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay
• Member of the Town of Collingwood Sign Variance Committee
• Member of the Town of Collingwood Heritage Committee
• Council member in 1995


Peter Coates
• Contributed to the Collingwood music culture for over 60 years
• Organized and performed in a concert that raised monies for Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (a Global outreach program)
• Supported many community choirs
• Leader of the Interfaith Choir, the Collingwood chamber Choir and Contorum (an acapella choir with focus on early music)
• Provided accompaniment to The Sound Investment Community Choir
• Plays the piano regularly at the Collingwood Nursing Home and retirement homes in the area
• Contributed historical research to the book “Rails to the Lakes”

Ian Whitton
• Member of the YMCA of Collingwood 1987 to Present
• YMCA Board of Directors from 1987 to 2002
• Treasurer from 1988 to 1991; and 1995 to 1999
• President 1991 to 1993
• Member of the Capital Campaign in 1989
• Member of the Regional Board of Directors of the YMCA from 2002-2006
• Member of the Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay from 2002 to present, serving as President from 2002 to 2004
• Actively involved with the Pretty River Academy and a Member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer from 1998 to 2007
• President of the Collingwood Clippers Swim Club from 2007 to present
• Founding director of the Dragon Boat and Canoe Club and is a member of the Board of Directors since 2004

Don Gallinger
• Collingwood District United Way 1988 – 1991
• Theatre Collingwood 1988 to present
• Big Brothers 2002-2004
• Chair of the Fundraising Committee the Pretty River Academy 1997 to present
• Active member of All Saints Anglican Church 2002 to present

• Past Master of Manitou Mansonic Lodge #90
• Co-chair of restoration and display of Watts Skiff “Nahma Project”
• Member of Harbourlands Committee
• World Youth Wrestling Tournament Committee Chair
• Coach and member of Board of Collingwood Minor Hockey
• Construction Co-Chair and supervisor for Habitat for Humanity
• Co-chair of the Station Restoration Project
• The Build Director for Habitat for Humanity: Five houses were built over a five-year period. Coordinates volunteers and tradesmen.
• Continued involvement with the Duntroon Anglican Church.

Gary Norman
• Received the Order of Collingwood in 2004
• Involved with the Multiple Sclerosis Walk Committee ~ 10 years;
•Canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society ~ 20 plus years;
•Assisted with the organization of the Collingwood Collegiate Institute 150th Reunion;
•Actively involved with the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs

Ron Emo

• Received the Order of Collingwood in 1990
• Co chair of South Georgian Bay Hospice
• Active member of the Cemetery Board at the Anglican Church.
• Chair of the Greater Collingwood Small Business Enterprise Centre
• Involved with Hospice and Hospital in fund raising

Barbara Weider
• Received the Order of Collingwood in 1984
• Founder of Theater Collingwood and continues to be a Board member.
• Actively promotes the Georgian Triangle development
• Founder of Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and actively involved with Arts in the Community and instrumental in raising the arts and cultural profile in the community. 2010 will mark the 35th anniversary of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts. Achieved her Masters’ Degree from McGill University as a mature student
• Resource appointee for the Arts & Culture Advisory Committee for the Town of Collingwood
• Active involvement with the Special Olympics

Sharon Goldsworthy
• Received the Order of Collingwood in 1988
• Board member of The Georgian Gables Non-Profit Housing Corporation
• Actively involved with “The Door” and supporting youth in the community.
• Involved in Anglican Church committee work
