Awaken your culinary senses with a visit to The Cheese Gallery in Thornbury, a new gourmet food shop that also offers custom framing and showcases the talents of local artisans. Having just procured their liquor license, you can cozy up to the bar and enjoy wine from local wineries; Coffin Ridge and Georgian Hills with a cheese pairing or snuggle in the lounge area with a cup of your favourite loose leaf tea or Ashanti Coffee against the backdrop of beautifully painted lavender walls.

Owners Casey Thompson and Wendy Bannerman-Clark have carefully selected  gourmet food offerings from around the globe and the neighbouring communities.  You can walk in and buy everything you need to create a fabulous gourmet Italian pasta dinner complete with homemade pasta sauce from Tesoro’s, fresh crusty bread made daily by Antje at the Ravenna Country Market, La Fabrica della Pasta from Napoli, and of course fresh parmesan cheese.

The array of cheeses offered is true to their origins, history and tradition.  The Gruyere is from Switzerland, the Parmesan from Italy, the Gouda from Holland and so on.  Casey and Wendy will also give you a cheese education as they explain how each cheese has been made and why it’s so special.

As you ohh and ahh your way around the retail section of the store, you’ll notice balsamic vinegars and basil olive oils from Mas Portel from Modena, products of Italy, Roland cold pressed avocado oil and Fleur de Sel – Sal de Ibiza in the most lovely containers.

Stocking up for a cocktail party or get together is a fun and delightful shopping experience.  Choose products from The Pickle Guy, pear or raspberry fruit butters from Clearview Farms, Crisps from Margaret’s Artisan Bakery including Goji Berry & Pistachio, Date and Walnut and Rosemary Pistachio or an array of gourmet shortbreads from Sprucewood Handmade Cookie Co. with flavours like Cocktail Cheddar, Lemon Zest, Raspberry, Dark Chocolate and of course Classic Shortbread.  Frozen entrees from Peasemarsh Farm are dairy, gluten, egg and nut free and the freezer also stocks Gryfe’s bagels.  Fresh pasta from Bertagni imported from Italy and Cheese Fondue from Appenzeller of Switzerland is available.  Yeay.

Peppered throughout The Cheese Gallery, local artisans have their work displayed for sale in many forms.  Jackie Stafford Jewellery in sterling silver and turquoise, pepper mills from master wood turner Taylor Ledden and unique mugs and dinnerware from potter Brigit Wright.  The works of local glassblower Kate Civiero and ironworker Luigi Civiero are on display and make fabulous gifts. The sterling silver serving pieces are handcrafted by Alan McIntosh.

The Cheese Gallery is a culmination of great things brought together in one place.
