The 9th Annual Taste of the Town tantalizes local taste buds as the signature Rotary Club event returns for another successful afternoon of fundraising and food in Collingwood.

It’s not just the weather that’s heating up. So is demand for tickets to the 9th annual Taste of the Town, Collingwood’s signature culinary event sponsored by the Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay, set to return to scenic Sunset Park on Sunday,

June 12, 2011 from noon to 4 p.m. for another great day of food sampling and socializing.

“Tickets do sell out and they usually sell out quickly,” says Rotary Member and Event Chair Nicole Vaillancourt, noting that last year’s event sold out in just two weeks. “Taste of the Town is a local favourite. Our guests love the garden party ambience by the water, as they mingle and enjoy the fruits of some extremely talented local chefs.”

This year’s event will showcase delicacies from 22 area restaurants, including Trattoria Azzurra, winner of the People’s Choice award in both 2009 and 2010, and back to vie for a third title. Last year the popular casual Italian dining establishment wowed guests with its sweet potato gnocchi and spinach salad featuring smoked blue cheese.

Not only is Taste of the Town one of the area’s cultural highlights – featuring international wines, Creemore beer and peeler light alcoholic apple cider made from apples grown in Thornbury – but it’s also the largest fundraiser for Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay. Each year the event raises several thousands of dollars in support of the community and a variety of charities, including the Rotary House and future Cancer Care Centre at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.

“It’s not only a great opportunity for people to get out and try something new, but they can also feel good knowing that their contribution is going to a very worthwhile cause,” notes Vaillancourt.

Tickets for Taste of the Town are priced at $95, including a $60 charitable tax receipt and the opportunity to sample as much and as often as you like. Each guest also receives a special voting chip to deposit in the jar representing their favourite restaurant on the way out.
