Taste of the Town (Posted On: Sunday, May 11, 2008)

As in previous years, this year’s A Taste of the Town event helps to serve notice to the rest of the world that summer has arrived and what better reason to head to our four season paradise (if you aren’t already here that is) than to enjoy quite possibly the greatest selection of food and beverages you will experience all season long?

Collingwood’s premier culinary event ramps up with unprecedented earlybird offer.

Tickets are now on sale for A Taste of the Town – Collingwood’s premiere culinary event that showcases food from some of the area’s best restaurants and chefs. A Taste of the Town takes place on Sunday, June 14 from noon to 4 p.m. in its usual location – the scenic Sunset Point Park, overlooking Georgian Bay.

And for the first time, this year event organizer the Rotary Club of Collingwood- South Georgian Bay, is offering early bird tickets for $75 from now until Mother’s Day (May 10). After that, prices for this licensed event (must be 19 or older to attend) revert to the regular entrance fee of $100 per ticket.

“A Taste of the Town continues to grow in popularity and the early bird pricing reflects our appreciation for the long-standing support of the community,” observes Rotary event chair Lesley Paul. “Of course we also hope word will spread quickly about this offer in order to entice more residents, weekenders and visitors to discover this great event.”

Raising Funds for Regional Cancer Centre

Apart from the fact that A Taste of the Town is one of the area’s cultural highlights for the year, it also happens to be the Rotary Club of Collingwood-South Georgian Bay’s largest fundraiser. Funds raised at this event support the Rotary House and the future Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. Rotary House will provide lodging facilities close to cancer treatment which is a valuable service for patients and their family members -- just ask any cancer patient who has had to endure long treks during one of the most difficult times in their lives. The lodge will be for patients, and their families, who live beyond 40 km from the treatment facility and will serve as a sanctuary -- a place for healing to begin and spirits to be built. The Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia has supported the dream of families staying together during cancer treatment, and for those who come to the future Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie they will have the Rotary House, a lodge for cancer patients and their families.
“When people go to A Taste of the Town, they can count on two things,” observes Paul. “They’ll have a great time and they can feel good knowing that all of the proceeds will go toward some worthy causes.”
