Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH) has joined the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) thanks to support from TD Bank Group.
Named "Best in the Nation" for surgical quality by the Institute of Medicine, ACS NSQIP is the first nationally validated, outcomes-based program used to measure and improve the quality of surgical care in hospitals. CGMH is the only rural hospital among the 18 hospitals in Ontario invited to participate in this program through the Health Quality Ontario agency.
"Our top priority is to make sure our patients receive the best surgical care possible," said Dr. Michael Lisi, CGMH Chief of Staff and Surgeon Champion. "By voluntarily participating in this program, our hospital is joining forces with other leading hospitals to uncover new ways to help our patients get the best results from surgical treatment."
Over its two year participation in this important program, the G&M Hospital will spend about $50,000 - money that is not available through its operating budget. TD recognized the importance of ACS NSQIP to the G&M's ever expanding surgical program and stepped up to help through a generous grant.
Chrystal Robertson, Branch Manager, TD Canada Trust, in Collingwood arrived with colleagues to deliver a $20,000 grant toward the first year of the program. "We are pleased to provide funding to such an innovative and exciting program," said Ms. Robertson. "TD believes strongly in investing in our communities where we live and work. This program will have positive ramifications for years to come as the surgeons and hospital staff adapt national best practices to care for our local community. Everyone benefits!"
