It's been a spectacular summer so far and it's about to get better with the Cedar Run Rodeo, Savour Simcoe and the Beaver Valley Rock Climbing Festival coming up this weekend, plus the Meaford International Film Festival is just around the corner. Did you hear about the Collingwood Moonlight Market on Labour Day Weekend? And don't forget to register for Stop the Drop - we need you!
The urgent challenge is that many people who worry about water levels have still not taken the time to register at Stop The Drop. As the folks running this campaign talk to people around the Bay, they keep hearing "I just haven't got to it yet". Unfortunately, this could lead to missing the target of 20,000 members by Labour day - and dilute the impact of the message to government. Lake levels are about to start going back down, and just imagine how next summer will look if we aren't lucky enough to have all the rain we had this year!
The inaugural Moonlight Market is set to light up Saturday August 31st this year as an addition to the regular morning Farmers' Market. The event runs 7pm - 11pm at the corner of Second and Pine streets in the heart of historic downtown Collingwood.
Unlike other markets, the Moonlight Market runs at night and will be lit up by twinkle lights and handcrafted lanterns. Crafters and food vendors will be present for shopping and dinner. Children (and adults!) will have the opportunity to create their own unique lantern to add to the decorations. Live musicians will play the duration of the event. There will also be an Arabian Nights themed reading nook (So don't forget your jammies!)
Night markets originated in China and have become an interesting and fun addition to the nightlife in North America. A brain child of the market manager, Rachel Thomas, the Moonlight Market combines traditional 'hawker' style vendors with an added Collingwood flair.
Says Thomas: "We're promoting the idea eating local through the various food vendors as well as providing an exciting event for families for the pre-back to school weekend. If you're home in Collingwood on the Labour day weekend, you should definitely come down and check out the Moonlight Market!" Come on out! Get to know Collingwood Downtown better!
There are only a few more show times left for Forever Plaid presented by Theatre Collingwood.
