Study Tips for Exams (Posted On: Thursday, January 26, 2012)

Exams are just around the corner, and it is time for high school students to get on top of their study time. Oxford Learning wants to give some tips on how to study smarter!

• Start now!  Study every night, starting now! This gives you more time you have to ask questions and seek extra help.
• Create a Study Guide.  Make a one-page summary of all units and major topics from each course. This will be your guide to planning your time.
• Use an Agenda.  Create a study schedule in your agenda. Include all your activities (sport, social, family) so that you can reserve time for studying.
• Make study notes. Create notes on all topics, definitions and main concepts. Writing study notes, in your own words, is more effective than just reading from a textbook or from class notes.
• Cover, recite, and check.  Test your understanding of the material by reading your study notes, then cover them, recite what was read (in your own words), and check to see if you got the key points.
• Create a fake test. Work with a friend and write down questions that you anticipate may be on the exam. Take this “fake test” two days before the real exam so you have time to review material with which you are still struggling.
• Make the most of your remaining classes.  Being an active learner in the classroom is the best way to get ready for exams. Participate in class and talk to your teacher about how and what to study!

Whether it is reading comprehension, math or study strategies, Oxford Learning’s programs help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed at school. Programming available for JK-grade 12. 705-445-6022 or send us an email... collingwood@oxfordlearning.com
