The 2009 Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer series returns to Scenic Caves – Saturday, January 17th, 2009.
Tubbs Snowshoes is the leading manufacturer of lightweight, versatile snowshoes for men, women and children with patented binding and crampon systems that simplify and enhance performance for backcountry exploration, day hiking, and trail walking. Tubbs Snowshoes is a proud supporter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, returning to the Scenic Caves in The Town of the Blue Mountains to host their second Tubbs Romp To Stomp Out Breast Cancer event on Saturday, January 17th, 2009.
Snowshoeing is a wonderful activity for outdoor enthusiasts, open to all ages and ability levels. The health benefits include:
• Snowshoeing uses every major muscle group at relatively high intensity for extended periods of time, thus requiring high caloric expenditure.
• Research has shown that individuals who substitute snowshoeing for running during the winter actually improve their running fitness over those who chose to run outdoors or on a treadmill as their primary source of winter training.
• Muscles used are similar to those used in walking and hiking hilly terrain. Hip flexors may receive more of a workout and quads may get more exercise than usual in walking due to the lifting motion of each step.
• The use of poles while snowshoeing gets the upper body moving and helps condition arms, shoulders and back muscles.
The Tubbs Romp To Stomp Out Breast Cancer series hosts a 3km benefit walk and a 5km fun run to raise funds and awareness for the Foundation and the cause, while introducing men and women to the social and health benefits of snowshoeing. Registration is $35 and begins at 11:30am on Saturday, January 17th.
