The Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay, a resort course open to the public, is getting set to for a monumental year. Not only is it the first full season for the team at the Raven but they have been selected to host the 2007 Telus Skins Game from June 17th to the 20th, 2007. The Raven is located off of Highway 26 just west of Thornbury about 15 minutes from the Village at Blue Mountain.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to host this event as I believe it will showcase the entire area as a four season resort destination,” says Jeff Palmer, Director of Golf at the Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay. The event is reportedly going to attract 10, 000 visitors to the area over the course of the 3 days and will require approximately 225 volunteers from the local populace.
The event is owned and conducted by International Management Group of Canada (IMG Canada) based in Toronto and has shaped this tournament into one of Canada’s premiere sporting events. Although players have not been confirmed for June’s event at Lora Bay IMG Canada will hold a press conference near the middle of April to announce ticket sales as well as the tournament field. The theme of this year’s Skins Game is a world theme where IMG will bring players from five different nations together to compete against each other. The objective of the event is to raise money for the selected charities of the title sponsor- Telus.
The 2007 Telus Skins Game will certainly be an exciting event for the area. Not only will it stimulate the local economy but it will showcase the area as Ontario’s premiere recreation destination for all four seasons. It will definitely help put Collingwood, the Village at Blue and Thornbury on the map on a national scale.
