As a founding member of the internationally renowned band Great Big Sea, Sean McCann enamoured audiences from Copenhagen to California. Great Big Sea was Canada's Friday night party band but on every night of the week! Today Sean's mantra "Help Your Self" sees him breaking the silence on his past addiction and abuse, and using music as medicine to positively change lives!
Continuing with the goal to present unique entertainment of the highest quality, Theatre Collingwood is proud to present An Intimate Evening with Sean McCann of Great Big Sea, as the third in a series of five one-night-only shows in 2016. The company's Summer Theatre Festival will also present five week-long plays from May to September, rounding off a full year of programming. In addition to this, they will also be presenting two lectures this year: The Art of Costumes in Film and The Ross Sea Party-Shackleton's Forgotten Men.
"Connecting Sean McCann has definitely changed my life," said Erica Angus, Executive Director of Theatre Collingwood. "I was already aware of his incredible music talent (I'm a huge Great Big Sea fan) but his honesty is overwhelming. When you come to this concert you are going to experience an evening of great music up close and personal with an incredible Canadian talent, and Sean's message may even change your life forever!"
Sean's recent solo efforts "Help Your Self" and "You Know I Love You" are the sound of a man facing his demons and ultimately overcoming them. This process helped him deal with his issues and showed him how to find strength in pain. They reminded him of the power of music, which at one time would have been used to cast a Friday night spell over a sold out hockey arena on a Monday, but now finds him touring the country as a solo artist in intimate venues where he can sincerely connect with his audience in the way he always hoped to face to face.
Sean's CDs will be available for sale at the concert and he is always happy to say hello and autograph them for you.
