On January 20th skiers from the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team travel with their coaches to Thunder Bay, Ontario to compete in the 2011 Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games.

Representing Blue Mountain are the racers who qualified at a regional alpine meet at Blue Mountain Resort last winter.

They are Christine Arnott, Jarred Jennings, Jeffrey Plouffe, Kayla Tateyama, Kirsten Draper, Malcolm Denbok, Martha Galloway, Matthew Fields, Matthew Poste, Rob Roest, Robert Edmunds and Samantha Mayer.

These games offer athletes the opportunity to compete on a provincial stage, and winners will represent Ontario at the 2012 Special Olympics National Winter Games in St. Albert, Alberta.

‘The athletes and their coaches have been training hard, putting in extra hours on hill in preparation for this event and we’re looking forward to representing our team, the region and Blue Mountain’– Janet Ellis, Head Coach.

Currently the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team is the largest program in Canada.   For more than 14 years, Blue Mountain Resorts has sponsored this team of more than 30 athletes, with the help of over 40 volunteers.  The team is has also been supported by the Mayor’s Golf Tournament, now in its 16th year and is also supported by Skiis and Bikes.
