The Board of Trustees for the Catholic board has awarded the tender for substantial renovations and retrofits at Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Collingwood. The $3.1 million renovation project was awarded to Bertram Construction Ltd. The project is expected to begin in the spring of 2015 with an anticipated completion date in the winter of 2016.
The project includes improved program areas for special education, hospitality, communications technology, student success and fitness training. There will be new academic program areas for cosmetology, dance/drama and small engines and an upgrade to the existing childcare space.
"We are thrilled with the news that the project is moving forward. This program enhancement gives momentum to an already strong academic program at our school," said Bill Ironside, Principal Jean Vanier Catholic High School. "It's inclusive in that it allows students more choice when selecting classes; making their program of studies relevant and ideally, career related."
Although the renovation adds more teaching-learning space for the school, it is important to note the footprint of the school remains the same. The project is really re-purposing and modernizing existing space to these focus areas.
