A true sense of community has always been one of Pretty River Academy’s biggest assets. Recent difficulties resulted in a 3-month shut down for the construction of the new school due to a dispute with a local contractor.
One parent was quoted as saying “We are much bigger than a building. Our school is based on more than stone and mortar.” The ability to overcome adversity was derived from that very attitude.
One of the strongest aspects of the project has definitely been the trades on the site. With the exception of one trade who was closely aligned with the ex-contractor, all returned and show continued support in the project.
Many trades waited months for large amounts of money since financing dollars were frozen due to the large construction lien placed on the project. However, a settlement was reached in May and Pretty River Academy was able to pay the trades 100% of what was owed to them.
Since the dispute, there has been nothing but smooth sailing at the site. Financing by Harbour Edge Capital Corporation paid the trades 2 weeks early on their May draw along with trade specific cards made by Pretty River Academy’ art students that were signed by every student and teacher in the school.
The Pretty River Academy community is very excited about their new school opening in September and would like to extend it’s thanks to everyone who supported the school through a difficult time and extend a special thanks to the trades including:
This Stone Home
C. Georges Electrical
Georgian Triangle Plumbing
Quality Fire Protection
Yanch Heating and Air Conditioning
