After a sold out inaugural event, Collingwood Oktoberfest returns for year two, hosted at Side Launch Brewing Co., recent recipient of CBAC Brewery of the Year Award. This year the event will include a large heated outdoor Festhalle tent, adjacent to the brewery entrance. "Last year's was such a hit that this year we decided to expand and accommodate the demand for tickets," said event co-producer John Gabriele, who produces the event with Liam Willis.
A popular tradition starting in Munich, Germany over 200 years ago, Oktoberfest is a celebration of Bavarian culture, and has grown to become the largest public festival in the world, attracting over 6 million visitors annually. Collingwood Oktoberfest will make its mark again in 2016 by showcasing its award-winning craft breweries to locals and visitors alike, as well as incorporating the traditional elements of Oktoberfest.
Celebrating the spirit of the original festival in Munich, the event will feature authentic music, food, and a selection of the area's best beers. Side Launch's multiple award-winning Brew Master, Michael Hancock, along with local dignitaries, will gather for a ceremonial Tapping of the Keg, a longstanding tradition to officially launch Oktoberfest events.
Town councillor Bob Madigan is looking forward to the event returning to Collingwood. "After seeing and experiencing the success of the event last year, I'm looking forward to year two. It's a great event for the town," said Madigan.
Entertainment will be provided by German-style Oom-pah outfit, The Beer Barrel Band - a recurring crowd favourite at the renowned Kitchener Oktoberfest event - as well as Collingwood-based band The Foremast Jacks and DJ Andy H.
