The Side Launch Brewing Company in Collingwood will play host to Collingwood's first ever Oktoberfest on October 24, 2015. Celebrating the spirit of the original festival in Munich, the event will feature authentic music, food, and of course, beer. A walk into the brewery's "Festhallen" and guests will be transported to a Bavarian paradise - a cozy place full of cheer and good friends. Food and beverages will be served by staff in traditional German tracht and live music will fill the air with German-style polka throughout the night.
Collingwood Oktoberfest will officially kick off with a Tapping of the Keg ceremony on October 23 at 6pm outside the Federal Building in downtown Collingwood.
A popular tradition starting in Munich, Germany over 200 years ago, Oktoberfest is a celebration of Bavarian culture, and has grown to become the largest public festival in the world, attracting over 6 million visitors annually. Collingwood Oktoberfest plans to make its mark by showcasing its award-winning craft breweries to locals and visitors alike, as well as incorporating the traditional elements of Oktoberfest.
All 3 of Collingwood's breweries will be represented and in full-force at the event, with Side Launch, Northwinds and the Collingwood Brewery all playing a part in bringing the best of local brews to the forefront. "Having all the breweries represented at this event is key. Collingwood is home to some amazing brews, and what better way to showcase that than with our version of the biggest beer celebration on earth?", said local businessman John Gabriel, who is producing the event with local bar owner Liam Willis. "There are 3 crucial elements to a great Oktoberfest event: beer, food, and music - and this event has all of them dialed," said Willis.
Town councillor Bob Madigan is amongst those ironing his Lederhosen and readying his finest frock in anticipation of the event. "It's amazing for Collingwood, and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the world-class breweries that we have here."
Guests will find the perfect companion to their brews with a German-inspired, locally prepared menu created by Northwinds Brewhouse Head Chef Travis Barron, including pork sausages, shaved corn beef on rye, saurkraut, pretzels, apple strudel and more.
The Beer Barrel Band, a Oom-pah style German band - and recurring crowd favorite at the renowned Kitchener Oktoberfest event - will provide live entertainment throughout the night, with prizes for Best Dressed, plus plenty of games and crowd participation to keep things exciting throughout the night.
