After a stellar inaugural event in 2010, NordicFest is back – and bigger! The cross country ski and snowshoe festival will take place this February 5, 2011 at Scenic Caves Nordic Centre in the Town of Blue Mountains.
The family-friendly event welcomes participants of all experience levels – some are avid cross country skiers and snowshoers, others are getting out for the first time.
“It’s a real opportunity to get out and enjoy our winter wonderland”, says organizer Marissa Schroder. “The event is really designed with the idea of getting people out to enjoy winter. Everyone is invited to participate and we get a great cross-section of people from the region and across the GTA.”
Aside from a discounted trail fee of $12 (regularly $18), NordicFest guests can take in the spectacular Scenic Caves trails on skis or snowshoes, enjoy free hot chocolate in the “warm-up cabin” and participate in the popular snow-person making contest. Free “learn to” ski and snowshoe clinics are offered to anyone interested in a refresher course or hitting the trails for the first time.
Rental skis and snowshoes are available on-site. In addition, major ski and snowshoe manufacturers will be on-site and participants can test out the latest and greatest! This year anyone who tries out gear will be entered into event-day prize draws!
Last year many people made a weekend of NordicFest – enjoying the event on Saturday then skiing at Blue Mountain on Sunday or enjoying the pools at the Scandinave Spa.
