The year is 1955.  Desperate to escape the chicory-pulling, stall-cleaning, hay-baling drudgery of life in RR#2 Caledonia, Peggy Ann Douglas has a plan. Following in the footsteps of starlet Debbie Reynolds, Peggy Ann will simply become a movie star - and she will start her journey to the top by winning the local pageant.

After touring across the UK and Canada, including runs at Halifax's Neptune Theatre, Ottawa's National Arts Centre and Toronto's Tarragon Theatre, "Miss Caledonia" is coming to Collingwood on Friday, March 24th.  As part of Theatre Collingwood's 2017 playbill, this delightful play about life in rural R.R.1 Caledonia is both heartwarming and hilarious.

Melody A. Johnson is the recipient of the Ontario Presents 2014 Artist of the Year award for her work touring MISS CALEDONIA.  Having performed from Brantford to Singapore for the country's most reputable theatre companies, including Theatre Calgary, Canadian Stage, & Factory Theatre, Melody is also an alumna of The Second City, where she has directed mainstage hits such as 0 Down and Second City for Mayor. Melody has received numerous Dora Award nominations over the years, including a win for the title role of 'Mercy' in Little Mercy's First Murder (Tarragon / Shaw Festival).

"I've seen Melody perform this play twice before and I believe it is a play that our community will thoroughly enjoy, and many may even be able to relate to", said Erica Angus, Executive Director for Theatre Collingwood.  Special thanks goes out to the production sponsors: Georgian Design Centre, Collingwood Toyota, and Collins Barrows.

The Historic Gayety Theatre is under construction right now so Theatre Collingwood will be presenting this play at New Life Church in Collingwood.  "When I toured the church I instantly fell in love with the great acoustics and the warm atmosphere.  I knew it would be a perfect venue for Miss Caledonia, and I look forward to present in a different location", said Angus.
