International Hockey Returns to Collingwood! The Collingwood Minor Hockey Association is pleased to announce a special exhibition game between the Collingwood Kiwanis Midget A-E Blackhawks and the Manchester (England) Phoenix.

The game will be played at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena Monday February 16th at 8pm. (immediately following a Minor Hockey play-off game). It is part of a Southern Ontario Tour for the Manchester Club.

“We are very thankful that the O.M.H.A.(Ontario Minor Hockey Association) has invited us to participate,” says Collingwood Minor Hockey President Dale West. “This is an opportunity that players don’t often get during their minor hockey career, it will be very exciting.”

Boston Pizza Collingwood is on board to help make the visit a memorable one for the teams. The restaurant is hosting a pre game meal for players from both teams to give them a chance to meet with other and enjoy a bit of a cultural exchange.

Collingwood Mayor Chris Carrier will be on hand to take part in the opening ceremonies and drop the puck to welcome both teams. The Mayor is a strong supporter of youth activities in the community.

The teams will participate in a typical Midget length game of 3 periods. The first period is 10 minutes in length, the second and third period will be 15 minutes, with a flood between the second and third period.

“We hope the community joins us in welcoming our friends from England,” says West. “ A big crowd will make the event even more memorable for the players.”

Admission prices will be 3 dollars across the board (minor hockey season passes are not valid). All Collingwood Minor Hockey players will be admitted free of charge.
