It's no secret that Canadian teenagers love to connect.  As the world becomes increasingly geared toward social media, teens are looking for welcoming places to engage, express their uniqueness and connect in real life. That's why Menchie's, the well-known frozen yogurt centre of the Hollywood star universe, launches Menchie's Teen Week in Canada, which celebrates teens' volunteer work, their love of gathering with friends and expressing their unique personality, with the hangout seal of approval from parents and guardians.

According to a recent Angus Reid survey* commissioned by Menchie's Canada, a whopping 87 per cent of surveyed parents of teens feel it is important that their teenager has a fun, cool and safe place to chat and hang out with their friends.  In addition, 74 per cent of surveyed parents feel it is valuable that their teenager have a safe, after-school place in their community where their teen could get an affordable, healthy snack.

Menchie's also talked to teenagers about what they look for in an after-school hangout and what they like about going to Menchie's, and this is what they had to say:

-   "I love the variety at Menchie's"
-   "It's a great place for all of my friends in the area to come and hang out. I think it's really lively."
-   "I like the decor because it's nice and bright and lively and it makes me feel welcome!"

"From the wide range of delicious frozen yogurt flavours and toppings; to the bright, colourful decor and the inviting atmosphere, Menchie's is the perfect place for teens to gather and socialize, that parents can really feel good about," says Michael Shneer, President of Yogurtworld Enterprise Inc.  "We're committed to making people smile and giving teenagers of all ages a fun, safe environment to connect with friends while enjoying a delicious frozen yogurt treat."

Menchie's is rewarding teens for their volunteer work!

To reward teens for their volunteer efforts, and in honour of National Volunteer Week, Menchie's launches its Community Smiles Program in Canada. This special incentive is just for teens, as a way of saying thanks for helping to make a difference in their communities. From April 22 to 26, 2013 Menchie's Canada will give away a free** cup of frozen yogurt (up to a value of $5) between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. to any teen who presents evidence of their great volunteer work. Now that's something to smile about!

When Menchie's talked to teenagers about their volunteer work, teens said they find volunteering a rewarding experience. In turn, for 46 per cent of parents, having their teen volunteer meant developing a greater sense of responsibility. "We found when speaking to both teens and parents, volunteering is an activity of value and importance to them," says Shneer. "This aligns with our beliefs, and Menchie's Community Smiles Program is a way to show our appreciation and support for the volunteers of tomorrow!"
