As another spring slowly rolls around, preparations have started at Collingwood's Downtown Farmers' Market. Vendors are busy planting, growing, making and baking in anticipation of the May 17th kickoff to the 10th anniversary season.
In addition to the tried and true group of seasonal vendors, the market is excited to showcase many new faces. These include the Kickin' Back Ranch (who will be bringing alpacas to the market some weeks so watch our facebook page for dates!), Buhbli Artisan Soapworks and Annanda Chaga Mushrooms.
Also new this year is the program launch of VQA wine sales at the local market. Returning vendor, Georgian Hills Vineyards will now be able to offer its products for sale - including allowing you to sample the offerings before you buy.
Watch for the new facebook campaign entitled "Farmers' Market EXPOSED" that will feature vendor back stories, an explanation of farming/processing practices and their general vision about the importance of local fare. "We are encouraging Collingwood to try new things as well as support local farmers. There is a renewed interest in eating local food, and this new campaign will introduce you to our famers and what's growing in our area", says Farmers' Market coordinator, Rachel Thomas.
2014 also marks the second year for the Moonlight Market, with the promise of a bigger (and brighter!) atmosphere. Watch for details about this exciting annual event!
Plan to come out to the municipal parking lot on the corner of Second and Pine Streets on May 17th from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate the start to the market's 10th anniversary year. Take a bite out of summer with the Collingwood Downtown Farmers' Market!
