|As the Christmas season closes in along with the joy that abounds, there is always pressure to find the right gift, holiday meals to create and along with the fun this all brings a certain amount of stress.
You don’t have to cook everything yourself! We are so fortunate in our area to be blessed with so many wonderful gourmet food shops, catering services and talented chefs
|that offer a variety of delicious gourmet options that save you time and you’ll come out looking like a superstar.
If you’re thinking maybe it would be great to buy everything…but you can’t afford to go that route, you can always make some of your favourites yourself, but then kick things up a notch or two by purchasing an appetizer or dessert. Highly recommended are the Croissants (a fabulous way to start Christmas morning) and the Tortiere from Café Chartreuse.
Dags and Willow has some wonderful home made dips that are just fantastic, the Spinach Aioli is my favourite, plus you can pick up whatever gourmet cheeses you need. If you have anyone who is a cheese lover in your life, you will surely be able to find a cheese inspired gift like their homemade cheese boards made from reclaimed wood.
Don’t forget to order the bird. At Blue Ridge Meats, you can order stuffing, gravy and lots of different sides to go with. Blue Ridge has now saved me for several Christmas seasons in row.
Buddha Dog offers take out and catering services. What a neat twist to a traditional holiday party that would offer, especially if there are little hands in your household.
Sometimes the commercialism of the holiday season, while festive can be draining and as part of a get back to basics campaign in our house this year, we’re making a lot of our own Christmas presents. Home made cookies for lots of our friends and some really cool paint your own pottery pieces for family members.
This past weekend was a fabulous experience for me. I spent Saturday baking up a storm (and I only set the oven on fire once…seriously) and then on Sunday had a wonderful time with my daughter and her best friend who was visiting for the weekend. We went to Crock a Doodle Studio in the village at Blue where you find a fabulous selection of unpainted pottery pieces to choose from. The magic comes alive as you paint your pottery piece with that special person in mind. Check out our photo gallery and you can see step by step photos of my Snowman Christmas Ornament.
While you’re walking in Downtown Collingwood make sure you check out Christie’s window, they always do such a beautiful job. While they are offering up customer service excellence, they will also wrap your purchases at no charge with beautiful Christmas paper, a lovely bow and a nice smile.
Family portraits are always a great holiday gift for Grandma and Grandpa and you can call Shane at Masterpix 705.444.0657 or Bryan Davies in Creemore at 705.466.5775 up until about December 15th to make sure they’re ready for Christmas Day.
Our featured charity this month is the G&M Hospital Foundation’s Tree of Life Campaign.
