In an effort to engage youth and showcase the extensive range of jobs and careers in South Georgian Bay, several community groups have partnered to create the South Georgian Bay Youth Career Expo. The event is planned for Tuesday, April 5th at Collingwood Collegiate Institute.
The community groups include volunteers, students, and school staff, representatives from Georgian College, Tracks, the Rural Ontario Medical Program, the Town of Collingwood's Marketing & Business Development department and the South Georgian Bay Small Business Enterprise Centre.
The event will expose over nine hundred, grade eleven and twelve students to employment and career opportunities in the region.
The event has invited over thirty regional employers representing several employment sectors. These sectors include Health and Wellness, Agriculture, Tourism, Advanced Manufacturing, Tech, Construction and Design (including skilled trades), Food Service, the Military, Fire Department, OPP and Aviation. Career maps will illustrate how students can achieve their desired careers in the various sectors.
Employers have been eagerly signing up, including: 32 Canadian Brigade Group, Agnora, ARO Technologies, Bellbrae Animal Hospital, Blue Mountain Resorts, CIBC Collingwood, Collingwood Fire Department, Cranberry Resort, Georgian Bay Fruit Growers Association, Genesis Flight Centre, McDonalds, Maximum Physiotherapy, Northwinds Brewery and Eatery, Ontario Provincial Police, Reinhart Foods, Rural Ontario Medical Program, Sensor Technology, Switch Video, Town of Collingwood, VOA, Yes Chiropractic.
To kick off the event and to inspire the students, the event has retained Stu Sanders, a motivational speaker who specializes in presentations to youth.
The South Georgian Bay Youth Career Expo aims to not only showcase regional employment opportunities but also interest youth in career choices that will bring them back to Live, Work and Play in South Georgian Bay!
