Jason Alexander is coming to the Collingwood Public Library. He may not be the actor from Seinfeld, but his paintings have donned the sets of several popular sitcoms, including Seinfeld, Will and Grace and Suddenly Susan.

The one man show, titled “Jason Alexander: 40 Paintings” features a variety of landscapes, abstracts, and still life paintings by artist Jason Alexander.

An international sensation, Alexander has shown his artwork across Canada, Europe and the United States.

“I’m known as a fauvist painter, meaning I ‘paint like a beast’” said Jason Alexander. “When people see my artwork they’ll experience intense colours, strong patterns and skewed perspectives – key characteristics of fauvist painters.”

Alexander’s paintings feature a variety of subject matter and perspectives. Especially intriguing is his exploration of quantum physics in abstract paintings. Alexander experiments with the perception of time creating imaginative and dimensional pieces.

The exhibit runs from Friday, April 1, 2011 to Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Collingwood Public Library.  The community is invited to an opening reception on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

At the opening reception, Alexander is revealing a large abstract painting on canvas. People may purchase 14 by 14 inch squares of the painting to be taken home after the show.

“Since this is my first large show in Collingwood, I wanted to include a special large abstract painting for the Collingwood audience,” said Alexander, who resides in Collingwood. “During the opening reception, people may select 14 by 14 inch parts of the painting to purchase, and I will have the individuals paintings stretched and resigned for the purchaser’s wall before the end of the month.”

To encourage community interaction, Alexander is hosting a walking tour of his show every Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Participants meet Alexander in the Library’s Westcott/Williams Art Walk for the half-hour tour. Participation is free.

The Library receives a portion of funds raised from art sales.
