Harmony North Chorus recently welcomed their new director, Selina Ree, who started with them this past Spring. She was a former member of Harmony North Chorus as a high school student and has now finished her university music program and returned to our area. She is bringing lots of musical knowledge, enthusiasm, and fun to the craft.
Harmony North Chorus has also recently moved their rehearsal location to Collingwood from Clarksburg.
The group feels that Collingwood is more central to the catchments area, and are hope that this central location will be more attractive to the singers in the area, and to their audience. The group is always looking for new members.
Do you have what it takes to be in the Harmony North Chorus? You might be surprised.
Here are some frequently asked questions and answers. If you love to sing in the shower (and let’s face it, most of us do), Harmony North Chorus just might be the thing you’ve been looking for:
Q. Do I have to read music or have previous singing experience?
Q. What if my voice is too low?
A. We sing a cappella which means we sing without accompaniment. We have 4 voice range sections and all are welcome. Since we are all women, our harmony needs women that can sing all sections including bass and tenor. We encourage women that cannot sing in a conventional choir perhaps because of their deep tone to find a welcome place within our choir.
Q. What happens at weekly rehearsals and can I try a few meetings first?
A. Of course. Feel free to join our practices. We meet once a week at the New Life Brethren Church under the direction of Selina Ree and practice great vocal production. We work on breathing techniques, song repertoire and performance techniques.
Q. What performances & Experiences will I participate in?
A. We perform locally and internationally. Our members enjoy and perform at local events around the Georgian Triangle, and through the Sweet Adelines, we compete at annual, regional singing competitions.
We hire additional, professional coaches that work with us on our competition pieces. We also host a yearly fashion show and sing at Christmas concerts annually.
Q. How do I participate and become a member?
A. We welcome new members to join us every Wednesday night at the New Life Brethren Church starting at 7:00 pm. You will be encouraged to sing with us and after a brief, private singing introduction with our director, we will find you a place within our choir.
