Now that the kids are back at school with new clothes, new school supplies, new teachers – these are things that we all expect and plan for with the arrival of the new school year.  But there is also the element of the unknown – will your child feel good about going to school? Will they forget about homework or assignments? Will they procrastinate? Will this be a good year or a tough year?

Based on past school experience and performance, you can make an informed judgment about what this school year will bring. But don’t wait to see what will happen this year. Act now to make this school year a great learning experience for your child and your whole family!

1.  Begin early – It’s never too late to implement positive changes that can lead to better grades but the earlier that kids get on track, the easier it is to stay there.
2.  Get informed and connected – Develop regular communications with your child’s teacher. You don’t want to hear about issues for the first time on a report card.
3.  Use a family calendar - manage school, family and extra-curricular activities with a large wall calendar. Practicing good organizational habits at home will encourage students stay organized at school and will help avoid last minute scrambles.
4.  Schedule study time – put homework into your daily schedule. If you child knows when it is time to study and other activities are scheduled around that, they’ll learn to prioritize appropriately.
5.  Get help – Avoid struggles and disappointment by finding the support you and your child need. Ask your teacher what they recommend or call Oxford Learning for more information on programs for students from JK to grade 12!
