The Strand, in the heart of Collingwood has history. Once the sight of the splendid Grand Hotel, was rebuilt in the early 20th century as a bank, where it was one of the original Bank of Montreal buildings and operated as such for a century. Renovated and converted into the fabulous Strand restaurant and Piano bar during the winter of 2015, the doors opened in February 2016.
The Strand derived its name in inspiration from the famous street in London, home of the art deco Savoy Hotel and the iconic restaurant Simpsons in the Strand. The menu names are nearby landmarks to the Strand, the Aldwych, just across the street, the Trafalgar (square) at the west end of the Strand and Buckingham (Palace) just west of that.
