Grandmas' Beach Treats is extremely excited to announce that those wonderful butter tarts they have been baking for the past six years from their store in Wasaga Beach are now officially award winning tarts!
This past weekend 30 of the stores naked butter tarts were entered into the professional category to compete with over 30 other businesses across the province for the title "Best Butter Tart in Ontario". Grandma's Beach Treats was the third place winner and came home with a cheque for $100 and a wonderful bronze medal!
"How exciting" said owner Sylvia Bray "we know we make a great tart based on the feedback from all our happy customers, but it sure doesn't hurt to have the judges confirm just how good they really are!".
The 2nd annual Best Butter Tart Festival and Contest was marketed as the sweetest showdown of the year by a committee of the Midland, ON BIA. They anticipated more than 50,000 butter tarts would be at the event and the majority of the vendors sold out early in the day. "We baked for 3 straight days and took well over 1,300 butter tarts. We were SOLD OUT by 11:20 AM! Staff brought us a second smaller batch just before noon and they sold in 15 minutes." said Sylvia.
The $100 prize cheque will be used to assist in a spay and neuter program currently underway for a feral cat colony that is living in the neighborhood behind the store..
Grandma's Beach Treats located at 1014 Mosley Street (at 22nd) in Wasaga Beach was named Wasaga Beachs' Favourite Ice Cream shop in 2014, won Business of the Year in 2009, and had their butter tarts mentioned in a National Geographic travel article on things to eat in Georgian Bay in 2013.
