What’s the perfect gift: something as unique as your friendship; an unexpected treasure; an enduring reminder of your long-lasting ties; a reflection of your common tastes and values?
For many occasions, a GIFT OF ART is the perfect solution. And when that art is hand created by a local sculptor, painter, potter, photographer, woodworker or glass artist your choice also helps support the burgeoning growth of artists in this area.
That’s why the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) is pleased to announce that their December show will bring together a small, talented group of Georgian Triangle Artists for an impressive month-long Gift of Art Gallery Show in the BMFA Arts Centre. The show will feature photographer Lenore Burton, potters Mike and Connie Leishman, glass artist Eleanor Brownridge, woodturner Taylor Ledden, sculptor Ann Clifford and painters Ellie Lagrandeur, Lynn Connell and Ofra Svorai,
“We wanted to provide shoppers with a close-up and personal experience with the artists and their work,” says Brownridge. “By keeping the group small and multi-disciplined, we’ll be able to ensure that each has ample space to define his or her style. Also, some of artists will be present at all times in the gallery, so shoppers will be able to ask about their inspirations and techniques. Painter Ellie Lagrandeur is planning to be working at her easel for a good part of each day.”
Cognizant that at this time of the year shoppers are looking for gifts in a wide price range, the artists plan to bring a variety of attractively-priced, pottery mugs, glass vases, wooden bowls, photographs and jewellery. As well, there will be a good selection of gallery-sized paintings and bronze sculptures that many couples like to buy together to celebrate the holiday season.
The Gift of Art Gallery Show will be open daily from December 2nd - 31st at the ARTS Centre, 163 Hurontario Street, in downtown Collingwood, with shopping hours extending to 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Everyone is invited to the Opening Reception on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 4 to 7 pm
