Are you tired of having to mow your lawn?  Let Free Spirit Gardens transform your yard with native plants that require little to no care or better yet a vegetable garden that feeds you in the Summer and Fall.  Free Spirit Gardens is a new non-profit organization in Collingwood that was established by the owner of Free Spirit Tours as a way to give back to the community in a healthy environmental way.

The organization provides organic vegetable and native plant growing services, builds community gardens and offers workshops to the public. Free Spirit Gardens recently partnered with Jean Vanier and were awarded a grant from the Toyota Evergreen Foundation to plant a vegetable garden on the school grounds.  As a result they are in the midst of facilitating hands-on workshops with the grade 9 science class and helping the students to plan the layout of the garden.

They have also planted 1000 seedlings with grade 9 science students at CCI, who will be caring for the seedlings until they are ready to be planted in one of our local community gardens.

Community members can get involved in a number of ways: volunteering to help at one of the community gardens or calling upon Free Spirit Gardens to help them start their own garden plot.

The Free Spirit Gardens team is hosting two upcoming events on Sunday May 1st starting with an apple tree pruning workshop at 12:30pm followed by a seed swap at the Kimberley General Store at 2:30pm. Special guest speakers will be there to share tips about seed saving and organic gardening practices.  The Kimberly General store is located in the heart of Kimberley on Grey Rd. 13.

For more information on these workshops and our gardening services please check out our website or call 705.444.3674.
