About Fleet-Wood Dancentre
As a student at the Fleet-Wood Dancentre, your talent will not go unnoticed. Every December, the school's ballet students perform in the windows of Downtown Collingwood dressed in beautiful Nutcracker costumes. This December 14 and 15 the centre will launch their 8th full scale production of this popular holiday ballet. Every June the entire school looks forward to a Recital weekend of performing for friends and relatives dressed in striking costumes, at the new Meaford Opera House. State of the art lights and sound are captured by Masterpix and CD's FYI. John Knox captures each dancer dressed in their recital costume.
Graduates of Fleet-Wood's pre-professional program have gained admittance to professional dance schools and universities with acclaimed dance departments. The Fleet-Wood faculty specialized in the Cecchetti Method of ballet, which provides the necessary training to prepare students for serious auditions. In addition to catering to those who live to dance, the centre offers recreational opportunities for adults and children in everything from ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, belly dancing and social. Sharron Fleet and Jane Wooding joined forces in 1994 to open the dance centre.
To date, more than 1,000 students have passed through their doors, trained by the owners themselves and other faculty members who include Elizabeth Lougheed, a graduate of the George Brown College Dance program. The three studios are equipped with everything that budding professionals need to realize their potential, including sprung floors covered in Roscofloor, bars, mirrors and sound equipment. Dance just for the fun of it, or dance because that's what you were born to do.
