Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominated Midnight In Paris screens this Thursday February 2 at4pm. Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, and Carla Bruni star in Woody Allen's romantic comedy about a family on a business trip in the City of Lights. It's about a young man's great love for a city, Paris, and the illusion people have that a life different from theirs would be much better.

Many a writer or artist has longed to travel back in time to the sizzling Paris of the 1920s, to sip absinthe with Hemingway at Les Deux Magots or dine on choucroute garnie with Picasso at La Rotonde.  Imagine the conversation! What has beguiled audiences about the new Woody Allen movie, “Midnight in Paris,” is that the protagonist, Gil, a disenchanted Hollywood screenwriter played by Owen Wilson, gets to live exactly that fantasy.

“A joyous delight! In this beguiling and then bedazzling new comedy, nostalgia isn't at all what it used to be — it's smarter, sweeter, fizzier and ever so much funnier,” says the Wall Street Journal “Marvelously romantic. A credible blend of whimsy and wisdom,” says the New York Times

Next up On Screen is the “raucous comedy” Golden Globe nominated The Guard, showing Thursday February 16 at 4pm. The Guard is a comedic fish-out-of-water tale of murder, blackmail, drug trafficking and rural police corruption. Two policemen must join forces to take on an international drug- smuggling gang - one, an unorthodox Irish policeman and the other, a straitlaced FBI agent. Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleason) is an eccentric small-town cop with a confrontational and crass personality and a subversive sense of humor. A longtime policeman in County Galway, Boyle is a maverick with his own moral code. He has seen enough of the world to know there isn't much to it and has had plenty of time to think about it. When a fellow police officer disappears and Boyle's small town becomes key to a large drug trafficking investigation, he is forced to at least feign interest when dealing with the humorless FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) assigned to the case.
“A great gust of very funny fresh air. An impish and impudent black comedy. Gives veteran actor Brendan Gleeson one of the tastiest roles of his career and introduces a gifted writer-director,” says the Los Angeles Times.

Coming up next On the Stage is the legendary Ron Sexsmith Saturday February 11. Limited tickets are still available, but selling quickly.

Following that, is Owen Sound’s former Tanglefoot performers Sandra Swannell and Terry Young of My Sweet Patootie on Feb 17th. Since 1999 their dazzling fiddle & guitar solos and joy of live performance brought fans from Canada, the USA and England to their feet at Tanglefoot shows (CFMA “Best Vocal Group” 2007).

Today as My Sweet Patootie, Terry Young and Sandra Swannell embrace a forgotten brand of showmanship that’s “two parts exemplary musicianship and one part vaudeville comedy.” (Driftwood Magazine)  Their clever, off-center original songs have “elements of western swing and old-timey music that updates the flapper feel and gives it a real twenty first century pizzazz... a delightful sound with a hundred years in its soul." (FATEA Magazine)  Swanell’s voice has been described as "hot buttered rum," Young’s tremendous dexterity and aggressive approach to finger-style guitar described as "virtuosic.” During his years with Tanglefoot, Young gained a reputation as a talented multi-instrumentalist, performing on banjo, mandolin, whistles and guitar. “Musical mayhem expertly played and executed by two outstanding musicians who no doubt will paint a grin on the longest faces with their good humoured and quirky songs.” Show starts at 8pm on Friday February 17, tickets are $20/adults $10/students.
