Rogers TV and The Canadian Cancer Society have partnered for a new and exciting fundraising initiative aimed at heightening awareness of the Canadian Cancer Society and the service provided at a local level. A Fight For Life Telethon is set to air LIVE on Rogers TV, cable 53 Sunday, February 23rd from noon until 6 p.m.

As part of the ongoing fight against cancer, accessing Rogers TV for a six hour long broadcast is an excellent way to inform, entertain and provide valuable information the public can use.

"As a local community channel, Rogers TV broadcasting a LIVE telethon across three of its licensed areas is just one way we can assist in celebrating the work of the Society," says Cindy MacDonald, Station Manager for Rogers TV. "Partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society Bluewater Community Office just makes sense.  We share common catchment areas and have the flexibility in our schedule to provide exclusive programming like the Fight For Life Telethon to our viewers", adds MacDonald. "Our core role of serving our community is what we do best.  Rogers has a very strong partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society and together, we're making a positive impact on the fight against cancer," explains MacDonald.

"While it's an exciting new fundraiser for the Society, it's also an opportunity to illustrate how the Canadian Cancer Society is making an impact in the fight against cancer by highlighting recent progress and initiatives. We'll have local residents joining us to share their stories, we'll relate how donations are put to work and we hope to attract new volunteers as well," explains Geoff Van Geem, Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society, Bluewater Community Office.

Donations for the Fight For Life Telethon are encouraged and can be dropped off during the telecast at Rogers TV, 4 Sandford Fleming Drive in Collingwood and Rogers TV Grey County at 1360 20th Street East in Owen Sound. Donors can also call during the telethon.

The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
